Q & C before the hunt
We love holidays at our home! We went to church in the morning and enjoyed a warm, sunny day outside. It was beautiful and we had so much fun hunting for eggs and celebrating our time together as a family. Though the holidays bring such great joy of Easter eggs, candy, and special treats, we always want to make sure that the kids really get why we celebrate these special days. We don't want the excitement of the holidays to over shadow the joy and thanksgiving for our savior. As parents, how do we balance the traditions of American culture with the biblical principles of the resurrection of Jesus?
The kids love animals. And they specifically enjoy learning about birth and the miracle of new life. Recently Q had baby chicks in his kindergarten class and they were able to discuss the life cycle of chickens. It was perfect timing and a great opportunity to continue that theme at home. Thanks to a story that M remembers growing up, we were able to strike a chord in the great balancing act. We shared with the kids that just as the baby chick hatches from the egg to begin life, so did Jesus roll away the stone to begin a new life with our Father. We further explained that trusting in God will bring us new life as well. And that in the same way that we search for Easter eggs, we must seek out God's direction in our life. We don't encourage or discourage the Easter bunny, but from our understanding, the rabbit was once a symbol of abundant life in ancient times. So we then explained the humbling honor to receive an abundant amount of blessings, love, and life that Jesus has in store for us.

Lord, thank you for the gift of your resurrection. How marvelous is your love. You have overcome death. Conquered the grave. You arose in victory. You died to renew our hope, grant us strength and forgive our sins. Thank you for the grace, mercy and peace that you bestow while seated next to our almighty God. We rejoice in your victory and for the new life that you give! What a blessing to be able to share your incredible story and unconditional love with our children. Amen.
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. John 11 25-26
